Food 4 Kids

Food4Kids is a ministry that assists local schools in ensuring no child is hungry over the weekend during the school year. We pick up cases with bags of kid-friendly, nonperishable food from a central distribution point and deliver them to 15 local schools to ensure no child goes hungry over the weekend. In four of these schools, we take these bags directly to classrooms. One of the schools we serve is Degan Elementary. They are a Title 1 school, which means that 40% or more of students receive free or reduced lunch. One of our Food4Kids drivers, Trane Wyatt, picks up on average 43 cases of food every 2 weeks, and our classroom volunteers, Larry & Suzanne Statler, delivers these bags to classrooms to ensure that over 100 students per week do not go hungry over the weekend. The need is great, but so is the joy in supporting our local schools and children.

We are always looking for volunteers. All volunteers need to be available weekday mornings, pass an LISD background check, and be able to comfortably handle 20lb boxes. We are most in need of a new delivery driver. He or she needs to pass all background checks, have access to a vehicle that can carry 45 boxes in all types of weather, and be available to drive to 3 schools in The Colony every 2 weeks during the school year.
