Discussion Questions

Discussion Questions:

1. How have you seen issues of sin result in the dehumanization of the one caught up in it? How does being brought before Jesus give the woman a name and face again?

2. In what ways is the woman caught in adultery and dragged before Jesus better than the man involved who got away? What does this teach you about having your sin exposed before Jesus?

3. How does the way Jesus handles the situation with the adulterous woman reveal His emphasis on restoration over judgment?

4. How do God’s dealings with mankind consistently show rescue comes before a standard of holiness? Does this mean that holiness is not important or watered down?

5. How does Jesus’ model of defeating those with their own agenda without resorting to their methods provide inspiration for how we can deal with people’s shady and negative methods in kinder and more productive ways?

Discussion Questions:

1. What kinds of habits from your past have hindered your being changed by Jesus? Do you believe that He has set you free?

2. How have you seen Jesus call you back to your failures? How has He tried to get you to look at your past failures from a new perspective—with Him in the midst of it, working with you?

3. What kinds of choices led Peter to fail and then return to his old way of living? What do you learn from his example?

4. What kind of “Pentecost” moments do you think God has in store for you if you do your fishing with Him in your midst?

Discussion Questions:

1. The Ninevites could get God to change His mind, but Jonah cannot. Why?

2. How do we live upholding God’s standards of holiness while avoiding a spirit of judgment?

3. God appointed a plant to provide shade and then a worm to kill the plant and a scorching wind. How do each of these display the mercy of God? How have you seen God appoint both the good and bad in your life as part of His mercy?

4. How do Jonah’s actions in 4:5 provide a poor reflection of who God is? Have you seen God’s church (or yourself personally) act in the same way as Jonah towards the lost?

5. Who are the people of Ninevah in your life? How has your personal comfort moved you towards avoiding taking the message of God’s second chance to them?
