Discussion Questions

Discussion Questions:

  1. How have you felt God wrestle with you? How have times of wrestling, and even pain and having your life put out of joint, helped you to know better who you are and what your convictions are?

  2. How long would the night feel if you were wrestling all night? Why would God allow such a long and exhausting trial to happen?

  3. What are some ways that God has touched your life (maybe even put it out of joint) to show you that your own strength and wisdom is not enough?

  4. What is the significance of Jacob’s name change to Israel? What are some ways God has sought to change your persona from the villain or heel to the face of the Kingdom?

  5. How does knowing more about Jacob and Habakkuk help you to understand the importance and even power in wrestling with fears and doubts, and admitting struggles instead of acting like everything is ok?

Discussion Questions:

1. Why does God allow choice if our choices can hurt or destroy us or someone else?

2. Do you believe God has a recipe for your life? How difficult has it been for you to follow

the recipe? What kinds of things tempt you to add colors that make it impossible to stay

true to the color the LORD wants you to be?

3. How does 17 years in Egypt change Jacob’s outlook on life? What lessons do you learn

from this example in Jacob’s life?

4. Do you see the same kind of intention that Joseph and Moses showed in picking a culture

happening in our culture today? What are some ways the church can help families be

more intentional with the path they set for their children?

5. How does Jacob’s model of using past, present and future help you with determining

direction or the right colors for your own life?

Discussion Questions:

1. How important is the concept of not being able to hear leading to not being able to speak

or put into practice that truth in your life? How does this premise excite you about

learning to hear God in new ways?

2. How has the devil been successful in stripping away the joy of high notes or low notes

and led people to believe their lives are off key or bland? What would help people hear

the truth of God’s Kingdom better so their lives are full of praise, gratitude & thanksgiving?

3. If you were writing a Psalm like this about your own life, for what expressions of the loving

kindness of God would you give thanks?

4. How do the missing chapters within this Psalm provide hope for the overall plan of God to

be victorious? Does this help you to have patience upon the LORD when you are in the

middle of difficult situations?

5. How does seeing that God allowed Jesus to face His own “bulls of Bashan” (and the

result was the same) encourage you in the challenges you encounter?
