Discussion Questions

Discussion Questions:

1. How easy is it for you to be offended by what people do? What advantage is there to

intentionally choosing to not be scandalized by things?

2. How does Jesus’ mission of peace factor into your purpose of life? What struggles do you

have with being a peacemaker?

3. Do you think Jesus was hurt by Peter’s denial? How was Jesus able to act so kind and

forgiving toward someone He warned several times about what was coming? How well

do you offer this level of shalom to the people in your life?

4. Is there an area in your life or a relationship that needs shalom (order, completeness,

fulfillment, peace)? What steps will you take to actively seek to bring this about?

5. Why do so many dividing walls exist among people? How does shalom tear down these

areas of division? How did Jesus demonstrate this level of shalom in His own life?

Discussion Questions:

1. Can you relate to Israel being invaded by “Strife” and left ravished and broken? How have

you been hurt by various kinds of “Strife” in your life?

2. How does the random order of life frustrate you? What difference does it make to put

items of first importance in their proper place? How does this help you carry your

burdens better?

3. How do priorities affect the peace you experience? How have you seen unhealthy

priorities actually take away peace?

4. Do you believe that having the presence and fullness of God in your life makes you a

“mighty warrior”? Why do we struggle with believing this? What kinds of things does God

want you to overcome through His fullness?

5. Why do we often believe that peace means our problems will be removed? How has God

shown us that He would rather work through our problems than take them out of the

way?

Discussion Questions:

1. What kinds of things are in the glass you are trying to hold up? How have you seen small

things get heavy the longer you tried to hold them up yourself?

2. Why was God able to rest on the seventh day? How is this a model for what He wants to

provide in your life? Is it possible to enjoy that kind of rest while living in this fallen world?

3. How is peace more about having the fullness of God in your life than the absence of

conflict?

4. How have you been tempted to focus on the temporary instead of the eternal? What are

some ways you have seen this affect your peace?

5. How do Isaiah’s pictures of God’s completed order in chapters 11 and 65 excite you about

what God has planned for your future?
