Discussion Questions

Discussion Questions:

1. Why is change exciting to consider, but difficult to accept? Since transformation (change)

is such an important part of our relationship with God, how does our attitude toward

change affect our walk with Him?

2. What reasons would a person have to not want to be made well? Are there any areas in

your own life where this would be a fair question for Jesus to ask you?

3. In what ways does the man Jesus healed in John 5 and the Jewish leaders have a similar

problem?

4. Why does Jesus choose the man He does to heal when there are many others in need?

Why does He not heal them all? What should we take from this for our own walk with

Him?

5. The Jewish leaders can’t see who Jesus is because of their understanding of the

Sabbath. Have you seen any areas like this in your own life or our church family that

hinders what God is trying to show us?

Discussion Questions:

1. Why is a “walk” of faith a good way to describe the process that Jesus calls us to?

2. How does Jesus use distance to move the royal official to a deeper faith in Him? How has Jesus used distance to guide you to deeper faith?

3. This second sign Jesus does points to the power of His word and His ability to give life. Why are these important qualities for us to recognize in our own faith development?

4. What should we learn from the way the Israelites handled Moses being gone for 40 days? Have there been times you did things in the name of the LORD that you later recognized were actually sin?

5. What are the pros & cons of crisis faith? Why is obedience such an important next step? How often does God call us to “go” without showing us what the results will be? What kinds of things help you develop this level of trust?

6. There is an obvious difference in how this royal official comes to see Jesus and then leaves from Him. How does your faith in Jesus bring peace to your life, even in the midst of intense trials?

Discussion Questions:

  1. Tell of a time when it felt like the wine ran out in your life. What do you learn from this newlywed couple inviting Jesus to their wedding? How intentional are you about inviting Jesus into your daily routines?

  2. How are miracles and problems connected? How does the description of Jesus in John 1:51 provide a good introduction for the sign Jesus performed at the wedding in Cana?

  3. How does this sign change the relationship between Jesus and His mother? Why is this emphasized?

  4. Is the transformation in your life where you think God wants it to be? How does Mary's statement of "Do whatever He says" play into your level of where your transformation is?

  5. In what ways would you say your life helps people drink the wine of the Kingdom instead of drinking dirty water? How does transformation and "life of the party" describe your daily life?
