Discussion Questions

Discussion Questions:

1. What similarities do you see between Habakkuk’s situation with Judah and what our

nation is going through today? How does Habakkuk’s message to God’s people influence

your outlook?

2. How does Habakkuk’s stroll through the history of God working on behalf of His people

help you see God’s plan and involvement in our lives today?

3. How does the key of God reconciling the world to Himself change your perspective of the

various things going on in your personal life?

4. Habakkuk moves from wrestling in the dust with God to waiting in the watchtower to

leaping with confidence on the high places. Which of these three places would you place

your own walk with the LORD at this time? How does knowing God’s intention of

reconciling the world to Himself give you stamina in the wrestling; patience in the

watchtower; and hope to be leaping in the high places with Him?

5. What difference does it make that Habakkuk’s third chapter is written as a prayer and a

song? He expresses his fear & trembling, but also his total surrender in faith! How does

your prayer life and worship involve these same elements? Do you struggle with being

this real and vulnerable with God?

Discussion Questions:

1. What kinds of times have you had waiting for a response from the LORD? How did He use

these times of waiting to develop deeper trust in Him and His ways?

2. Why would God use a people as ungodly as the Babylonians to discipline His people?

What lessons do you learn for your own life from this?

3. What kind of worry do you have about whether God will keep His promises? How does

the element of time help or hinder your ability to control worry?

4. How does faith help you to say God knows what He is doing, even when the situations

you face don’t make sense to you?

5. How does looking for things to unwrap each day help you to trust more and wait in faith

upon the promises of God?

Discussion Questions:

1. How does Habakkuk’s candidness before God encourage you in your own prayer life?

2. How do you see God doing the same kinds of things in our culture and political situation

that He did in the time of Habakkuk?

3. How do you handle it when it feels like God is doing nothing? How reassuring is it to hear

God say He is doing something that they would not believe if they were told?

4. How do you see God using a refining fire to purge the unrighteousness from our land?

5. Habakkuk lists 4 qualities of God that stabilize his fears (Habakkuk 1:12—everlasting; holy;

sovereign; our Rock). How do these qualities help you to see life’s challenges with a

positive outlook?
